Monkey Brains Review & Giveaway (4/28)

There seems to be hair care lines geared toward babies and toddlers. There is also an over abundance of adult hair care lines. What about the tweens in the middle? Too often they "tweens", ages 8-14, seem to be left out of the hair care market. No tween wants to use baby products, and no parent wants their child using adult "sex in a bottle" hair products. Now there is Monkey Brains, a swinging new collection that allows kids to be kids!

So many kids rock the cool faux hawks, spikes, controlled messiness, and the "Bieber" type flow. Monkey Brains offers a shampoo, conditioner, 2 gels, 2 glues, a pomade, and a hair refresher, all of which allows kids to express themselves and have the hairstyle they want while having fun doing it.

I also have to mention that Monkey Brains recently sponsored a suite at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. For every celeb that walked through their suite and took a whack at a monkey pinata, they donated $100 toward pediatric cancer! I love a company that gives back and I know you all do too!

We were sent some Monkey Brains products to review. Although my kids are a bit younger than the typical "tween" age, they watch many tween aged shows on TV and already want to imitate the hairstyles they see. My kids & I loved the fact that the bottles are fun and banana shaped complete with the monkey. The names of the Monkey Brains line are awesome too, like Grease Monkey Hair Pomade and Goop Out Shampoo.

I loved how the pomade we received wasn't sticky on my daughter's hair, brought a great shine to it and although it lasted throughout the day, it washed out completely in the shower that evening. The hair gel we received will be used more when Bub finally sits for the spiky haircut I have been dreaming of him to have. I am hoping by this summer he will be able to rock that style for years to come.

Buy It
You can purchase any of the Monkey Brains hair care collection for $3.99 each. Products are available at Walmart, Walgreens, Kroger, Food 4 Less and Ralph's. Also you can go to the Monkey Brains website and use their store locator to find the closest retailer near you!

Win It
Monkey Brains has generously offered FIVE lucky Obviously MARvelous
readers a sampling of their collection including a shampoo, conditioner, hair refresher, and gel!

Mother's Day Gift Idea: The Ultimate Rose Review and Giveaway - $140 Value

Mother's Day is right around the corner and I'm sure we are all wondering what to get mom this year.  Mom's work so hard day in and day out, all year long, from the moment they wake up until the moment they go to sleep.  I think we can all agree that mom deserves only the best!

Roses are always a mom favorite no matter what the occasion.  Have you ever given mom a 3 foot, 4 foot or even a 5 foot tall rose?  The Ultimate Rose has all that and more!  Including over-sized teddy bears and luxurious gift baskets for every occasion.

To my delight, I received a dozen Princess Roses with a clear vase! I had never seen roses this tall and beautiful in my entire life.  They were almost as tall as my darling 7 year old daughter.

Beautifully wrapped and packaged with care to assure their safety.  Each rose has a little water tube to assure that they arrive safely.  The stems were very strong, luckily they send cutting sheers with your roses as well.  There is no way that a regular pair of kitchen scissors would cut those thick stems.

The roses were amazing.  Their size, color and the way they smelled were top notch!  My daughter was totally in love with them and without hesitation claimed them as hers!

I'm honestly not sure who enjoyed them more!  I can assure you that they brightened our day, each and every single day we had them.  There is just something about a beautiful bouquet that puts a smile on your face.  If you're looking to make that very special someone's heart skip a beat, The Ultimate Rose is the way to do it!

The Ultimate Rose specializes in extremely large roses for anniversaries, birthday arrangements, congratulations gifts, get well bouquets, I'm sorry roses, just because roses, I love you roses, new baby greetings, giant red roses, thank you roses, engagement roses, wedding flowers, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, corporate gifts, graduation flowers, and roses for any special occasion. Make someone's day, send them The Ultimate Rose today!

Plackers Giveaway from Mommy Katie!

This information was taken from the site of ~ Mommy Katie

Plackers Gift Set Giveaway 5 Winners!!

As parents we want to keep our kids healthy. A big part of keeping our kids healthy is making sure that they know how to and learn good oral hygiene habits. A big part in learning good Oral Hygiene habits is flossing. We know as adults that we need to floss and it is very important that we teach our children the right way to floss as well and in order to do that we need to provide our kids with the right flossing tools. The people over at Plackers understand kids and they know how important their little smiles are to us, so they make flossers that are perfect for kids. They arent too big, so they can easily use them daily when flossing. Another huge tool that is needed in order to get proper oral hygiene is a toothbrush! Children dont just need a toothbrush, but they need a toothbrush that is the right size for their little mouths. But we all know that if there is fun music involved in any products that can make the sometimes trying tasks more fun, then that would be more preferable and more fun. Well the people over at Plackers understand that as well and they now carry childrens musical toothbrushes. The thing is these toothbrushes arent your regular pop song toothbrushes. These toothbrushes are actually educational! Instead of those pop tunes, your child can listen to music with sounds from down on the farm with the Barnyard Talk brush, they can learn their ABC's and sing along with the Let's Learn ABC's brush, they can count from one to ten with the Let's Learn 123's brush, or the brush that teaches your kids to brush the right way with the Let's Learn Toothbrush Talk brush. All four of these toothbrushes are a ton of fun and along with the Plackers Flossers for kids, your kids are sure to learn and pick up great Oral Hygiene habits! I was given a wonderful gift pack with all four kids toothbrushes and some packs of the Plackers Flossers to review, courtesy of Plackers. And the wonderful people over at Plackers would like to give 5 of my amazing readers their own set just like the one I received as well!!!!

Easter Giveaway!

This information was taken from the site: Mommy Katie

Easter Leftovers Recipe and Pyrex Gift Pack Giveaway!!!

Just like other holidays, Easter often leaves us with plenty of leftover food. George Duran, chef, entertainer and host of TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off shares three new Easter leftovers recipes that he’s created to spice up this year’s post-holiday eats.
With suggestions like Bunnies in a Blanket, Spicy Tomato Deviled Eggs, and Thin Crust Honey Ham Glazed Pizza, George has masterfully taken classic Easter dishes and given them a little leftover twist all while sticking to simple, everyday ingredients. I have included the Spicy Tomato Deviled Eggs Recipe from George Duran below.

Spicy Tomato Deviled Eggs
by George Duran
Now you know what to do with all of the Easter eggs you found! Enjoy!
Prep: 35 minutes / Yield: 6 to 8 servings
1 dozen eggs
5 tablespoons low-fat mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Hunt’s tomato paste
2 to 3 teaspoons bottled hot pepper sauce
Kosher salt or table salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Paprika
For perfect hard-boiled eggs: Put the eggs in a large pot and cover them by at least 2 inches with cold water. Put the pot over high heat. When it comes to a boil, remove it from heat, cover, and let stand for 15 minutes. Drain the pot and run cold water over the eggs to stop the cooking. When cooled, crack and remove the shells.
Cut the eggs in half and put the yolks into a bowl. Mash them with the mayonnaise, tomato paste, and Tabasco until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Place the yolk mixture in a re-sealable plastic bag. Just before serving snip off one of the corners of the bag. Gently squeeze the bag and fill each egg white. Garnish with paprika.
Yield: 6 to 8 servings
I also have a awesome giveaway to offer my readers to help with those Easter Leftovers!! One lucky reader will win the following gift pack:
6-piece Pyrex set, perfect for storing those Easter leftovers
1 pink egg-shaped spatula for the Bunnies in a Blanket
2-towel set of colorful Easter kitchen towels to brighten up kitchen for the holiday (and for spring)
2 free coupons for Vanilla Snack Pack pudding (a fun Easter snack)
1 bottle of Hunt's ketchup (perfect condiment for Bunnies in a Blanket)

Monkey Mayhem and Little Tikes are giving away a Cozy Truck!

Monkey Mayhem

Little Tikes – Cozy Truck (review/giveaway)

It’s officially Spring, but you can’t tell it here…it actually has been snowing off and on here. But the snow isn’t keeping me from getting ready for Spring…before the bad weather my best friend Amy and I had been walking around the neighborhood…just to get out of the house. I just wish I would have had this Cozy Truck from Little Tikes back when the weather was nice, I remember the Cozy Coupe when I was younger and have always wanted to get one for the kids.
This Cozy Truck is like nothing I’ve seen and can’t wait for the weather to warm up so we can take it on walks instead of the stroller. It has a handle on the roof and includes a removable floor so I can push Jaxon instead of him using his feet to move the truck. Much more fun than being pushed around in a stroller, he can push the horn. Which is AWESOME…it’s not just a “beep beep” it sounds like a real truck horn! I wish I would have had the camera on when I was putting it together and let Jaxon get in it for the first time, he pushed the horn and he actually squealed with excitement! Just something worth mentioning…the horn COMES WITH BATTERIES already in it, you just have to pull the plastic guard off so it will make contact to work :)
Speaking of putting it together, I found it sort of easy, yet it had it’s challenges. The wheels and axles were my biggest problem, having to balance the wheels, axles and all on top of a cone type thing and hammering the end of the axle into the metal “hat” to keep everything together. I get that it’s the best way to make sure it’s on and stays on, but goodness I had the toughest time with it. The instructions were easy to follow and I had no problems with the rest of the truck. I think all kid toys that require assembly have their challenges and it didn’t help that Jeff had left to go grocery shopping and all 3 of my kiddos were hovering around me wanting to help, wanting it to be done so they could play with it.
I really could go on and on about this truck, it was in our living room put together for about a week before we finally took it outside to go for a walk (that ended up getting canceled :( )
  • Jaxon kept getting in and out, the working door is perfect and even has a “lock” for when we do go for walks, I can keep him from opening the door and falling out!
  • Has a nice size flat bed with a working tailgate! Perfect for toting toys around, and where the rear window is, has cup holders!
  • I think this deserves repeating, it has a removable floorboard, so his feet can’t touch the ground if it’s being pushed and it’s easily removed for him to be able to use his feet to move.
  • Steering wheel moves and has a working horn.
  • Working gas cap, opens and closes :) (Amy got a kick out of that! And yes she’s 25 years old!)
I couldn’t be happier with the Cozy Truck! You can buy one for $79.99 at Little Tikes!

The Giveaway: One of my readers will win Cozy Truck from Little Tikes!

Children's Book Giveaway @ Susan Heim on Parenting!

Children’s Book Review and Giveaway: LaRue Across America, by Mark Teague

In the delightful children’s book, LaRue Across America: Postcards from the Vacation, by Mark Teague, Ike LaRue, a dog, is forced to share his vacation with his neighbor’s two cats after their owner suffers from heatstroke. Ike and his owner were scheduled to take a cruise, but since cats aren’t allowed on the ship, they’ve all taken off on a road trip instead. Needless to say, Ike is having a miserable time cooped up in the car with two frenzied felines! In a series of postcards from various attractions around the United States, Ike pleads with Mrs. Hibbins, the cats’ owner, to retrieve her pets, who aren’t adjusting well to road life. Finally, in Death Valley, Ike is thrilled when the car breaks down (after a dog bone mysteriously becomes lodged in the engine), and they are offered tickets on another cruise ship -- one that allows cats!
LaRue Across America is the fourth book in Mark Teague’s bestselling LaRue series. All showcase the hilarious adventures of Ike LaRue! In addition to being a fun story, LaRue Across America also includes a map where kids can follow Ike’s journey through various tourist attractions across the country. They’ll chuckle at Ike’s various attempts to get rid of his feline companions and delight in the marvelous illustrations by author Mark Teague. I give LaRue Across America two paws-up!
You can win this adorable book by entering here! Hurry! Giveaway ends 4/28: http://susanheim.blogspot.com/2011/04/childrens-book-review-and-giveaway.html#comment-form
